Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it important to "enroll in a program" and not "purchase a product"?
With OPS, we don't just sell you the materials and then expect you to complete the program on your own. Each student is assigned to a state certified prelicense instructor for support and to review homework assignments.
Homework? What kind of homework?
State rules require that each student demonstrate proficiency in
areas such as writing sales contracts, pricing property, finance
and agency. Each student must complete assignments in each of these
areas.
Will my instructor be available if I have questions?
Instructors are generally available by telephone or email during normal business hours.
Why do you not charge sales tax?
You are paying tuition, not purchasing a product.
What is a "Cram Course"?
As our student, you may attend a two-day in-class course, which reviews the entire prelicense course, and helps prepare you for the final exam and state exam. This is offered monthly at the GA Institute of Real Estate and is free for our students.
How long does it take to complete the program?
Most students complete the program in 2 - 3 months. There is an initial enrollment period of six months but that can be extended up to one year if necessary.
What if I don't finish within the year?
You would have to re-enroll and begin all over. There is a $50 re-enrollment fee.
How soon after I enroll do I get my materials?
Normally the kit is shipped via UPS on the same day the enrollment is received and is delivered the following day.
What all is included in the kit?
You will receive the ProStar © Salesperson prelicense software, the text book - Real Estate Dynamics , a manual of Georgia real estate law and rules of the Real Estate Commission, instruction manual, homework forms packet, a booklet on the GA Real Estate Examination and various other materials.
What do I do with the materials if I decide not to complete the course?
Since the materials are being provided by OPS for your use in the program, they should be returned to the school if you withdraw from the program. If you complete the program, you may retain the materials.
If I am doing this on my own computer, how will you know if I complete all the material?
The program is divided into topical chapters. You must pass the quiz at the end of each chapter in order to move on to the next chapter. When you have completed all chapters, the Student Disk is returned to the school (in an envelope provided) and checked to verify completion. If so, you will be contacted to schedule taking the final exam.
When and where is the final exam given and how much does it cost?
The course final exam is given several times weekly in Duluth and Sandy Springs. Other times and locations may be arranged with your instructor.
What if I don't pass the exam?
It only requires a grade of 75% in order to pass and most students pass on the first attempt. However, if you don't pass, your instructor will review with you the areas ( not individual items) that you should study and you will be given the opportunity to take a second exam.
And if I don't pass the second exam..
Very few students fail to pass the final exam on either the first or second attempt. If you fail both exams, you would have to re-enroll in the program to have another chance.
What about the state exam?
The state exam is given every weekday and on alternate Saturdays
in Lilburn, Marietta , Macon and Savannah . The cost is $97.
What if I need additional help in preparing for the course final exam or the state exam?
There are several study aids available in our bookstore. These may be in workbook, audiotape or software format. You may also ask your instructor about availability of tutoring.
What happens after I pass the state exam?
You will have three months to select a broker with whom to affiliate. We can provide you with forms you can use when interviewing brokers so you can choose the one who is best for you. You can begin your professional real estate career as soon as your broker receives your certificate from the GA Real Estate Commission.
How much is the license?
Currently, a real estate salesperson license is $170 and is good for approximately four years.
What if I don't want to work in the real estate business right now?
You may choose to place your license on inactive status. You must pay the same license fee and meet the same training requirements but you do not have to affiliate with a broker. Discuss this decision with your instructor.
What training requirements?
Within one year from activating your license, you must take a Postlicense course and then 18 hour of Continuing Education during the next three years. Thereafter, you must have 24 hours of Continuing Education every four years.
Where do I get the Postlicense and Continuing Education courses?
From OPS, of course! Our Prelicense students are given a 10% discount on all Postlicense and Continuing Education courses plus an additional 10% discount for each new prelicense student referred to the program.
